Security Blanket?

so some kids have security blankets or teddy’s or some other snuggly thing...but not my boy...his security item is his hockey stick!! no joke it’s the first thing he says in the morning most days and he’d go to sleep with it if we’d let him. He takes it everywhere we go and has a fit if it has to stay in the truck. well today the unthinkable happened....

...We’d had a busy morning. We’d walked to the bank straight after breakfast (about a 40 min walk from our house) taken care of a few things and then stopped at a Starbucks for a treat before heading home. Oliver was getting tired and cranky from being in the stroller for so long so I slipped his hockey stick into the basket under the stroller and gave Ollie his sippy cup of milk as we headed back home. I had been in a super rush this morning so I wanted to take a leisurely walk back home. About 3/4 of the way home I went to get something out of the basket and then it hit me!! NO.HOCKEY.STICK! what?!? How could that be? If it had fallen out it would have hitten me on the feet or I would have stepped on it or something! I new it was replaceable but I just could not continue going home knowing his favorite thing in the world was just lying somewhere so I turned around and headed back just praying we’d actually find it, all the while checking the ditches for his stick. Finally we came around a corner and across the intersection (and about 100 meters from the Starbucks) was his hockey stick just lying on the sidewalk. Those lights could not change fast enough!!! I’m not sure if he even realizes it was lost but boy did it give me a scare.

some random facts about me

ok so I've been tagged by Tanya and I am supposed to share some random facts about myself....you ready for this ;]
  1. I L.O.V.E breakfast food...especially for dinner. If I could only chose one meal to ever go out to eat it would definately be breakfast.
  2. when I have to pack to go away somewhere I always sketch out the outfits I'm going to take rather then making a list...I don't know why I do this but I have since I was very little. I have sketchbooks full of these little doodles. It's so funny to look back and see what I once thought was 'cool'.
  3. whenever it rains I get a really strong urge to go for a run....i just need to follow through once in a while ;]
  4. I love to indulge in a trashy celeb. gossip magazine every now and then....((blush))
  5. if it has cheese in it...I'll eat it! ;]
  6. I'm TERRIFIED of snakes! they make me cry! even in a cage at the zoo I feel like I'm going to pass out when I get near them.

ok I'm suppose to tag people now but I don't even know if anyone reads this so if you do and you feel like doing this just comment and let me know so I can read it :]

yummy orange cupcake goodness

*sorry for those of you that also read my myspace blog*

I’ve been wanting to post about some yummy cupcakes I made a few weeks ago but I couldn’t find the necessary cables to upload my pics...BUT...today I found them and uploaded about 80 photos to my pc so I thought I’d share with you my yummy orange cupcakes.

I started by whisking 3 eggs + an extra yoke together with milk

then because I didn’t have any vanilla (we’ve just moved and haven’t fully restocked our pantry) I grated the zest of one orange, added it to the egg & milk mixture along with about 2 tsp of fresh orange juice

then I creamed the butter and sugar together in my mixer, then added the flour, (forgetting the baking powder and salt but I didn’t realize that until later)

so I preheated my oven, filled all the cups with batter, and had just slipped them into the oven when I realized that after I had taken a phone call I had forgotten to add the baking powder and salt. In a panic I called my sister but she reassured my they should be ok...

...and boy was she right!!

can you see the little flecks of orange zest? They were soooo yummy

ok here is the recipe if an of you feel inspired

3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tsp baking powder
2 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
3 large eggs +1 extra yoke
3/4 cup milk
2 tsp fresh squeezed orange juice
the zest of one orange

in a bowl cream together butter and sugar. in a separate bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. in another bowl whisk together the eggs, milk, orange juice and zest. next you want to add the flour mixture and the egg mixture to the butter and sugar making sure to start and end with the flour, alternating back and fourth. preheat oven to 350 degrees. line cupcake pan with papers and spoon batter in. now I can’t remember how long these baked for but I believe it was between 20-30 min. just make sure to keep and eye on them and check them with a toothpick. it makes a dozen cupcakes. Happy baking :]

long time no blog!

I can't believe it's been so long since I updated here! I'll try to get back on track and post a little more frequently. We've had alot on our plates so far this new year...but hopefully in a couple weeks things will settle down and go back to normal. we are moving at the end of this month so I can't make any promises until then ;)
I've found a new love....ok well not totally new but it's my current passion...CUPCAKES...I really love to bake, which is funny because I'm not a very "housewifey" kind of wife, but I can't wait to get settled into our new place and always have something baking or hot and fresh. I love the simplicity and earthiness (is that a word?) of baking from scratch. There really is nothing more beautiful then batter waiting to be turned into a cupcake, cake, or anything really. Anyways I should run as we have alot of packing to do and less and less time each day to do it. check back soon for another post though ;)

Just so I don't forget

I'm posting my thankful Thursday post today. I've been really thankful for the little moments in the day when my ds and I can just run and play and be carefree for a while. We've been getting snow off and on for the last week or so (with more to come) and the two of us spent the morning outside on Monday playing. He's at such a fun age right now (he'll be 18 months a couple days after Christmas) Everything is such an adventure and he focuses whole-heartedly on every new experience. I've come to love the fact that the same traits that make him stubborn and mischievous and somewhat "difficult" at times also make him determined and adventurous and outgoing. I feel like during these little moments together I get to see a glimps at who he is going to become.

Winter Wonderland

"Oh the weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful, since we've no place to go..."

We had our first real taste of winter weather this weekend. I just love this time of year when you can go to bed at night and everything is drab and tired looking from the long seasons before and then wake up in the morning to a fresh white blanket covering everything. I just love the snow and everything about this time of year.....this is except the endless rain that we get up here in the pacific northwest.
We had a beautiful 2 days of snow only to wake up to rain yesterday morning. If you can believe it ALL the snow is gone (other then a few small piles left behind by the plows) we went for a drive around town yesterday and the flooding has already began and yet it continues to rain and rain. Oh well they are calling for more snow in a couple weekends so there is still hope for a white Christmas here ;) although it's been years since we've had one.
Honestly I can't even remember the last time there was snow on Christmas day. I know this post has really nothing to do with cloth diapering or even parenting at all but I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to share the beauty of this season.

"...Let it snow, let it snow, let it SNOW!"

This Thursday...

I'm really thankful for the small amounts of alone time I get once my ds is asleep. He's been a nightmare this week to get to sleep (like taking a couple hours to get to sleep at night despite him being soooooo tired) As frustrating as it is it really makes me apreciate every moment I get to myself. Sorry this isn't longer but I'm basking in some quietness while my ds sleeps and my dh is out playing some hockey. =)

Just what I was afraid of

I've been eying this print for quite some time but always decided against it for fear that it would be too girly. when I first found SOSdiapers they would sell out immediately and were really hard to acquire. I managed to snag one and it's been our favorite diaper ever since we got it. when I noticed this print up and available I decided to just go for it...maybe I'd luck out and there wouldn't be that much of the pink on mine. I ordered it and then patiently waited and waited (it actually got here quite quickly considering it was a semi-custom mail tends to be slower this time of year.
Well I got home to find a package sitting, waiting for me in the front hall and excitedly ripped it open only to find that the front of the diaper is mainly pic :( I was disappointed because I love this fabric and have been really wanting to get it for a while now. So now I have a dilemma....do I sell it and maybe get something else a little more boyish or do I hang onto it in a hopes that I have a little girl to put it on soon. I think I'm leaning to the latter only because I just really would hate to sell it and we are planning on TTC in Feb/March so I'll be starting a newborn stash soon enough anyways ;) If we don't have a girl next I can always sell it then I guess. I'm still trying to decide....

a little late *oops*

so I just realized I missed my thankful Thursday which is actually quite ironic given that it was the American Thanksgiving on Thursday....*blush*.....so anyways I've been really thankful for the good weather we've been having this week. One of my ds' favorite things to do is go for a walk outside which is really hard to do when it's rainy and miserable (which it is more often then not here during the fall/winter/spring ;)) This week, however, has been an unbelievable beautiful week weather wise and I've really enjoyed the chance to get out during the day. I always enjoy getting out with ds and just walking and listening to him chatter away. It's always so refreshing to get a little glimps at how exciting things are to him. I'm consistantly amazed by the way he soaks it all in.
