restless

ok well I had to change my layout up again! I'm a changaholic when it comes to my blogs/myspace/forum siggies. I just can't help myself =)

a little update

I've been patiently waiting for our Moshi since the beginning of the month (she was closed for 2 weeks around when I bought it soI did know that I wouldn't get it right away) and I finally heard back from her that it was shipped today. HOORAY!!! she said I should get it by the weekend (which means tomorrow) but I'm not going to get my hopes up....I'm all too familiar with the slowness of the Canadian postal system. I'm secrettly hoping that it does come tomorrow. I've already started planning where I want to use it thise weekend haha.

Feeling Inspired

lately all I've been wanting to do is make stuff. A couple days ago I made a flat and a prefold out of some cotton fleece I have. I'm still snappiless so I haven't really got to try either of them but my first impressions are that I love the pf but think I'd like flats out of something thinner.

flat diaper (28"x28")

prefold (2x4x2, 15"x15")

then today I went to a thrift store looking for wool sweaters to turn into soakers and longies, I did manage to find a sweater (only one though) and also found wooden knitting needles and the knitting gauge that I've been wanting. I was soooo excited!! even better is that I got it all for $2.75 (the sweater was $2.00) so I felted the sweater up a bit and have started to take it apart, and I have also made up a pattern for the soaker so hopefully I'll whip up that soaker and a pair of longies tomorrow while O is napping.

Also on my list of things to do is embellishing some of our pf's and maybe make a couple pouches and maybe a ringsling. I'd also like to make another fitted diaper and maybe make the outer fabric a print. Oh and now I am totally lusting after this fabric for something for O. I saw someone make the cutest coat out of it and I think a diaper would be adorable out of it as well. I'm on an owl kick right now and love anything that has owls or other "o" thing. I'm also wanting to make a corduroy soft structured carrier but I'll have to hunt for the perfect fabric for that. well I should go get some sleep because I know my ds will be waking me up nice and early tomorrow ;)

the simple things

It's funny how becoming a parent has made the simplest things into some of the most exciting things. I don't know if it's just getting older (like being excited about getting a coffee maker or a set of pots for christmas) or if it's just the fact that we think our babies are the smartest, cutest, most interesting babies to ever be born ;) for example, since our snappi is MIA I decided I was gonna give our pins a try. I've always been terrified of stabbing O in the stomach or worse, but it was really easy. I can see how with a little practice I could get a really snug fit. I still love my snappi more though and you can bet as soon as I get some paypal I'm order a few spare pairs. even so I was on a little high knowing I had accomplished pinning his pf on and was only slightly dismayed when he got explosive poop all over our beloved interlock soaker *yikes* luckily it washed right out and all is forgotten.

on another note I've decided to give flats a try. I have some cotton fleece that I cut one out of today, all I have to do is serge around it and it's ready to go. And while I was doing that I also cut out a prefold to practice for when I do the bamboo ones, leaving enough to make at least one more fitted. Hopefully I'll get a chance to work on those tomorrow and maybe a fleece pouch while I'm at it.

I've been neglecting my knitting though. I just don't have the drive. I don't know if it's because I think the soaker I'm working on is going to be too small or if it's just that I would rather have more interlock but I'm just not in the mood to knit. I'm wanting to recycle some sweaters into soakers and longies though. I need to get to a thriftstore sometime and pic some up. I've also been researching wool interlock and found what seems like a good source I just need to find out if they'll ship to me up here in the great white north :)

I've been hoping to get an online store up and running by the end of October but I may have to push it back to the middle of November. Either way I'm really looking forward to it, and I'm feeling really inspired.

ok well I could probably go on and on but I should take advantage of the fact that my ds is sleeping and get some sleep of my own.

OH NO!!

I can't find my snappi!!! yes I only have one at the moment...I keep meaning to order some more but then I forget until I can't find the one I have. I'm sure it's not lost but I've looked everywhere for it with no luck yet. And on another note my poor ds has had diarrhea since Sunday so we've been using disposables a little more this week. One thing I can say is that they definately do NOT hold the poop in like cloth does. I had to wash the padding and straps of our highchair and spray down my son with the shower this morning because of an "explosion" It's been an interesting week to say the least. Hopefully our snappi will show up in our mound of laundry I need to do and I also hope my ds will start feeling better :(

Can't Wait!

I'm going to be making some bamboo pf for a friend and I am soo excited!!! One, because I can't wait to feel some bamboo fabric IRL and Two because it's something I haven't tried before and I love making new things. Have I mentioned I'm excited because I really am ;) ok well that is pretty much all I have to say tonight. this blog is boring even me!! I'll try to think of more exciting thing to write about I promise LOL.

new things for a new season

I'm really caught up in the spirit of fall this past week (my new layout is a tribute to that). I'm already busy planning our weekends and fun things to do with Oliver. I really want to get to the pumpkin patch or apple orchard, maybe get on a hay ride, I also want to get out for a lot of day hikes in the changing leaves and maybe get up to the fish hatchery to see the salmon spawning....I have a feeling this fall is going to fly by just as fast as this summer did. Somewhere in all of this I've got a list of knitting and sewing that I want to fit in, like working on the size range for my diaper pattern (and maybe perfecting the design a bit) and finishing a few knitting projects I've started so that I can start a bunch more. Can a person have to many hobbies? if that's possible then I'm right on the edge I think. I keep telling myself that I'll start painting again soon and that I will get around to finishing all my scrapbooking ;) I think half the fun of hobbies is planning the next project....at least for me it is.

we've also reacently found the wool love here. The Thumbelina Diaper cover that we had so patiently been waiting for finally arrived...and wouldn't you know it it came the first mail day we were gone on holidays. I'm just so glad that it made it safe and sound and that it works so well for us. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you Tanya

well now that the wating for that is over I can start waiting for my Moshi carrier to arrive. I'm super excited for it to arrive. (alot of my fall plans involve the use of this beautiful carrier) I'll have to post pics as soon as I get it. I got the pretty bird print which I am so inlove with. this is my first soft structured carrier and I've been waiting a long time to get one....I've already got a list of others to add to my collection including and Ergo and a Beco (or two ;) ) I think I'm just as passionate about babywearing as I am about cloth diapering, maybe even more. well I suppose I should stop for today. I've got a million things to do, the first being som laundry :)
